The photographer, hailing from Oak Ridge Tennessee, has had an illustrious career spanning over three decades that is characterized by his eclectic photographic style. After graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1980, he moved to Milan where he made a name for himself with his unique and independent style. He gained critical acclaim after his works appeared in well-known publications such as Vogue Italia, Lei, Linea Italiana, Madame Figaro, and French Elle. His success in Europe led him to return to the United States where he photographed album covers and advertising campaigns for various clients.
Holz has been known for his use of lighting, shadows, movement, and printing techniques to create signature and unique shots. He has photographed a wide range of subjects including nudes in his studio juxtaposed with industrial objects and has also turned his camera towards vast landscapes, forests, jungles, rivers, and aftermaths. His work has evolved into celebrity portraiture, photographing famous personalities such as Jack Nicholson, Angelina Jolie, Beyonce, and President Barack Obama among others. His photographs have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, and his work features in permanent collections at the International Museum of Photography at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, and Centro Cultural/Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico City. He is represented by Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles and Staley Wise Gallery in New York City.
